Biographic Notes
- Evelina Lamma was born in
Bologna in 1960. She received her degree in Electronic Engineering from
the University of Bologna
(Italy) in 1985, and her Ph.D. in Computer Science in 1990 from the
"Dipartimento di Elettronica, Informatica e Sistemistica" DEIS of
the University of Bologna. She was Associate Professor at the University of Udine
(Italy) in 1992 and 1993. She then moved to the University of Bologna,
where she was Associate Professor at the Faculty of Engineering till 2000.
She is currently Full Professor at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Ferrara
(Italy).
- She is currently a member of
the Computer Science Group at the
Department of Engineering, where
she leads the LP and AI group.
- She is member of
GULP - Gruppo Ricercatori e Utenti Logic
Programming, of the 
Association for Logic Programming and of
AI*IA - Associazione Italiana per
l'Intelligenza Artificiale
Research Activity
Her research activity has
focussed and focuses around:
- programming languages (logic
languages, modular and object-oriented programming);
- artificial intelligence;
knowledge representation; - machine learning;
- application of computational
logic for specifying and verifying (multi-agent) systems.
Most recent recerch
activity is done at the Department of Engineering of the University
of Ferrara. It
concerns the exploitation of Computational logic for modeling and verifying
multi-agent systems (in the context of the UE Project SOCS, and national projects COFIN2003 and
COFIN2005).
Her research has covered
implementation, application and theoretical aspects. She also works to the
development of Artificial Intelligence applications in various fields, and also
to the application of data mining and machine learning techniques for medical
and genomic data.
For her research results in
the logic programming and artificial intelligence areas, she was invited to give
the following tutorials:
- Modularity in Logic
Programming, at the 11th International Conference on Logic Programming
ICLP94 (jointly with P. Mello);
- Introduction to Logic
Programming, at the 4th and 5th Congress of the Italian Association for
Logic Programming in 1989 and 1990 (jointly with P. Mello);
- The notion of Object in
Artificial Intelligence, at the 4th Congress of the Italian Association
for Artificial Intelligence AI*IA95.
She was visiting researcher
at the Computer Science Department della Brown University, Providence, RI (USA)
in 1994 and at the Swedish Institute of Computer Science, Kista (S) in 1990 and
1991.
She was co-organiser of the
3rd International Workshop on Extensions of Logic Programming, held in Bologna
(Italy) on February 1992, and took part to the Organizing Committee of the 8th
European Conference on Object-Oriented Programming ECOOP94, held in Bologna
1994.
She was co-chair of the
Italian Conference on Artificial Intelligence, held in Bologna on September
1999.
She took part to several
national and international research projects. She was scientific responsible of
the research group at the Dipartimento di Ingegneria of the University of
Ferrara in the UE ITS-2001-32530 Project (SOCS), in the context of the UE V Framework
Programme - Global Computing Action.
